walk it off

Walk it off.  Shake it out.  Get back on the horse.

The way that we deal with situations in life says a lot about our faith.  Too often we see ourselves or others deal with things by how we get offended, by holding a grudge, by getting bitter rather than getting over it.

Make a decision about how you are going to deal with the hurt people give you or by the blame that is placed on you.  Decide before it happens how you will feel, how you will react and that you will move on.

When I was in elementary school, I remember getting hit by a baseball when I was pitching in a little league game.  It hurt.  My knee was not the best place for the baseball to end up.  The coach, who was my brother Steve, said I should “walk in off”.

A few years later I had taken up horseback riding and learned to riding I fell off a couple times.  That was hard.  I remember one time my foot got caught in the stirrup of the saddle and dragging me a short distance.  Another time I hit the side of the barn.  The riding instructor told me to “get back on the horse.”

The best way to deal with situations is to deal with them.  Then walk it off and get back on the horse.

How do we do that spiritually?

Philippians 4:6  NLT

Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.

Ephesians 4:32  NLT

Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you.

Proverbs 3:5-6  NLT

Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. 6 Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.

Colossians 3:2  NLT

Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth.

Decide today how you will deal with the things that come your way, the people that hurt you and the situations out of your control.  Life is hard, but God is good.  He will help you.  Move forward.  Don’t get wrapped up in things that keep you from seeing God or being like Him.

Literally choose to walk it off.  Get back on the horse or get back to living.  Watch God work as you trust Him rather than getting angry or getting even.  It will make a difference for you and for others.

Francis Chan's "Forgotten God" (brand new book)

One of the most powerful preachers, writers and leaders of our time, in my opinion, is Francis Chan.  His first book, Crazy Love , revolutionized my thoughts about God's love as well as my interacting with God.  Now it is time for a brand new book from Chan being released tomorrow, September 1st.  The book is Forgotten God .   This is a phenomenal book about the power that Christians and the church can and must tap into.  All of it is within the Holy Spirit.  Francis talks about the power that was seen in the book of Acts when the Holy Spirit began to move among people.  It is true that many have avoided or maybe forgotten what the Holy Spirit is all about.   And like the Savior who poured out His life and blood so we have reason to rejoice, we were made to lay down our lives and give until it hurts.  We are most alive when we are loving and actively giving of ourselves because we were made to do these things.  It is when we live like this that the Spirit of God moves and ac...

inspiration from C.S. Lewis

There are many people, past and present, who get our attention by what they write or say or share.  For me C.S. Lewis is one of those.  He was a prolific writer who continues to grab the attention of thinkers from many different points of view. Lewis first grabbed my attention when I was in 5 th grader, and our teacher, Mrs. Foy, shared The Chronicles of Narnia with our class.  It was a powerful time that this dreamer opened doors to thinking like I had never lived before.  He wrote of faith, of far off places and of strong figures who found their character rooted deep in God. C.S. Lewis was born in 1898 and died in 1963, 7 years before I was born.  It wasn’t until his 30’s that under the influence of his friend Tolkien that he came to be a Christian.  He was raised in a traditional church going home, turned away from God as an Atheist in his teen years and through trying to stay away from God and faith returned to God with...
