expected Messiah

Matthew 16:14-16  NLT

“Well,” they replied, “some say John the Baptist, some say Elijah, and others say Jeremiah or one of the other prophets.” 15 Then he asked them, “But who do you say I am?” 16 Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.”

Answer for yourself.  Answer for those around you, those you have influence over.  Make this personal and not a church answer or what you heard others say.  Who do you say or think, or best yet, who do you know that He is?

Peter’s answer reveals a lot about his heart and even a lot about Christmas, our celebration and what we believe comes our in the answer.  Peter answered… You are the Messiah from God!

Who is Jesus?  Many continue to struggle because they don’t know for themselves who Jesus is.  Many doubt.  Yet so many, like us, are convinced.  Remember you aren’t alone in your observation.

This reality isn’t based on what you know, it is based on who you know.  This truth comes to life as you experience God, not as you live without purpose.  This light and life is found only in our coming to know the one who loves us, frees us, forgives us and opens our hearts to new and real possibilities.

I know that I desperately need light and freedom.  Christmas is a time to remember that those things, light and freedom, are made possible because of the baby of the manger, the Christ of the cross and the risen Savior who conquered hell, death and the grace.  he is our Messiah.

The Messiah’s birth was the first miracle.  Then miracle upon miracle sent us the one that was being looked for who brought us our possibilities and our freedom.  That is our Christmas distinction to see Jesus, the baby of Christmas who became the savior, crucified and resurrected one.

This Messiah, the expected one, who came in a different way than most expected brought so many things to those who have chosen to follow God.  One of the greatest things that He brought was hope.

1 Thessalonians 4:13  NASB

But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers and sisters, about those who are asleep, so that you will not grieve as indeed the rest of mankind do, who have no hope.

This hope changes us.  This hope changes the people around us.  This hope changes our perspective and our reason to live.  Many will continue to ask questions that we know the answers to.

Matthew 11:3  NLT

“Are you the Messiah we’ve been expecting, or should we keep looking for someone else?”

He is the Messiah we are looking for.  Look no further.  Look unto Jesus, and the go tell others who you have found.

Be an Andrew. Give others hope.  Point them to the one and only Messiah.

John 1:41  NASB

Andrew first found his own brother Simon and *said to him, “We have found the Messiah” (which translated means Christ).

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
