pray for Ukraine

My heart is heavy for the Ukraine and our world.  That is why I shared yesterday that we need to pray.  As we move in to the weekend I challenge us to spend time thinking and praying for world events as well as worshipping God who remains in control.

The following is a prayer guides from Send Relief.  Here is great insight:

After eight years of ongoing conflict, tension continues to mount on the border between Ukraine and Russia. Imminent conflict between the two countries could spark a catastrophic humanitarian crisis in Ukraine, causing millions to be displaced from their homes.

Send Relief, a cooperative ministry between the International Mission Board and the North American Mission Board, is working with local Baptist partners in Ukraine to care for displaced families in desperate need of help and hope.

You can help! There is extraordinary power in prayer. Here are ten ways you can pray for the Ukraine crisis:

PRAY FOR:

1. The people of Ukraine as tension builds on the Ukraine-Russia border. Pray for strength, courage and perseverance as their home is threatened by imminent conflict.

2. Safe passages out of conflict zones for displaced populations.

3. Government officials to lead with wisdom in this tense time.

4. The estimated 4 million displaced people who will be forcibly removed from their homes. Pray that in the face of conflict, they will find psychological, emotional and spiritual healing from this trauma.

5. Soldiers on both sides of this conflict to be safe from harm.

6. Local churches, relief workers and humanitarian aid organizations to care for what could be a massive wave of displaced peoples in Ukraine.

7. Disciples Church in L’viv, Ukraine, and its church plant in Bryukhovychi. Many of the people there are displaced from the East. Pray for peace for these believers as they had hoped this conflict from eight years ago was over and now, they are facing it again.

8. The Ukrainian Baptist Theological Seminary as it wrestles with how to assist its students in this time of crisis.

9. Ukrainian believers as they seek to be a light in the darkness.

10. Ukrainians who have never heard the gospel to have an opportunity to experience the hope of Jesus.

James 5:16  NLT

Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results.

Join me this Saturday at 6pm for our addiction ministry service and Sunday at 10:10 for our weekend worship.  At both we will have a time of prayer for Ukraine.  Also Sunday evening at 5:30 we will have a celebration of life reception for Susanna Dunham.  Community family, please bring snack foods or finger foods to share in this celebration of her life.

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
