valentine's day

1 Corinthians 13:4-7  NLT

Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud 5 or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. 6 It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. 7 Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.

Happy Valentine’s Day to you!

My valentine is Julie Harrison.  This is our 29th celebration of this holiday together.  That amazes me because it seems like it was not that long ago that we began this journey today.  Nope.  28 years of marriage.  Numerous homes and cars and stuff.  3 children and now a grand child.  This sweet lady has my heart, more than just my valentine.

You know, love is something that few of us really unstained because as humans and especially those who are flawed we mess it up.  We make love about us or about what we can get out of it.  We make it what it really isn’t or make it based on how we feel or what it can get us.

What is love?  Love is based on what God has done and how He loves us.  His love is unconditional but multi-faceted like a diamond and how different it looks from every angle.  Look at it, love I mean, from the perspective of the verses above.

Love is patient.  I don’t have a lot of patience, yet when love wins, I am more patient.

Love is kind.  Love treats others with honor and respect.  Kindness is something we all need.

Love is not jealous and doesn’t keep track of wrongs.  Yes, I just put those together.  Those things are selfish and so wrong from the start.

Love isn’t irritable.  Wait, that one shouldn’t be in the list.  We all get irritable.  Right?

It is time to walk through the path we are on with new eyes.  Love one another based on the love that God has shown us.  He is example.  He loved.  He went out of His way to prove His love.

Take some time on this valentine’s day to share His love with others.  Tell those you love that you do.  Find some who won’t hear from others and tell them you love them and that God loves them.  It might change their day or even their life.

And I close with the reminder Jesus gave us…

Luke 10:27  NLT

The man answered, “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your strength, and all your mind.’ And, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’”

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
