every breathe

Some times you just have to share.  I heard a story or a lesson from a friend this week that has keep me thinking and is one incredible truth.

As I share today I encourage you to thank God for His gifts.  Our breath is one of those gives.  Praise Him.  Use your voice.  Make your life count.  Think long and hard about the way your life is connected to God.

Read on and thank you to Jason Dove, a dear friend, for sharing this:

“Let everything that has breath Praise His Name”

There was a moment when Moses had the nerve to ask God what His name is. God was gracious enough to answer, and the name He gave is recorded in the original Hebrew “YHWH”.

Over time we have added an “a” and an “e” in there to get YAHWEH… probably because we have a preference for vowels. But scholars and rabbis have noticed that the letters YHWH represent “breathing sounds” or aspirated consonants, and when pronounced without vowels, they actually sound like “breathing” .... YH for inhale and WH for exhaling.

So a baby’s first cry, his first breath “speaks” the name of God! A deep sigh calls His name, or a groan or grasp that is too heavy for mere words. Even an atheist will speak His name, unaware that their very breath is giving that constant acknowledgment to God. Likewise, a person, when they leave earth with their very last breath, when God’s name is no longer filling their lungs.

So when I can’t utter anything else, my cry is calling out His name. Being alive is calling out His name. Being alive means that I am speaking His name constantly. Is it heard the loudest when I am the quietest? In sadness we breathe heavy sighs, in joy our lungs feel almost like they could burst, in fear we hold our breath and have to be told to breathe slowly to help us calm down. When we are about to do something hard we take a deep breath to help us find our courage. When I think about it, breathing is giving Him praise.

Even in the hardest moments of our lives… this is so beautiful, and it fills me with emotion every time I grasp at the thought. God chose for Himself a name that we can’t help but speak every moment that we are alive… all of us, always, everywhere always, walking, sleeping, breathing with the name of God always on our lips.

How beautiful is that? His breath fills our lungs… His name is in our lungs… ”Let everything that has breath praise the Lord”.

Psalm 150:6  NLT

Let everything that breathes sing praises to the Lord! Praise the Lord!

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
