treasure of John 12

Earlier this week I shared from John 12 some insight that kept ringing in my heart.  Well, I have to turn back there again, and yes, I missed sharing with you yesterday.  Let’s see if I can make up for it.

In the verses I am going to share today I’d like to ask that you choose to look at them from the position of a follower of Jesus.

What did you experience when you were with Him?

How did His teaching and His mannerisms impact you?

Which of these things do you need to apply to your walk with Him?

Read on with those questions in mind.

John 12:44-50  NLT

Jesus shouted to the crowds, “If you trust me, you are trusting not only me, but also God who sent me. 45 For when you see me, you are seeing the one who sent me. 46 I have come as a light to shine in this dark world, so that all who put their trust in me will no longer remain in the dark. 47 I will not judge those who hear me but don’t obey me, for I have come to save the world and not to judge it. 48 But all who reject me and my message will be judged on the day of judgment by the truth I have spoken. 49 I don’t speak on my own authority. The Father who sent me has commanded me what to say and how to say it. 50 And I know his commands lead to eternal life; so I say whatever the Father tells me to say.”

It is easy to catch some patterns from what Jesus had to say.  I will simply give you a few highlights that I find here and in the life Jesus lived as so many watched on and began to live differently.

— If you trusted Me, you are trusting in God also

— When you see Me, you see the one who sent me.

— Light is what I came to share in your darkness.

— Obeying God leads to not be judged.

— He spoke only what the Father told Him to speak.

There is a pattern in these verses that we can apply to our lives.  It is sharp, and these things made a lot of sense to those who have trusted God and even noted that our way ends in a direction that doesn’t lead us to be closer to God.

Check out John 12 for yourself.  That is much treasure to consume or to learn from.

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
