holy week

Holy Week

It is holy week as we move toward Easter this coming weekend.  The day after Palm Sunday, the triumphant entry, where Jesus was celebrated as king as told of through prophecy.  All this points leads us to see the passion of this hero.

Monday and Tuesday of Holy Week week finds Jesus teaching important lessons.  I share part of the story that sticks out for me.

Jesus was and is God, but Jesus was also human.  That is what made him stand out.  Can you imagine the heaviness of the week?  Can you imagine being fully God knowing that the coming days were going to be incredibly hard.  Jesus kept on following the Father’s direction and helping others find faith.

On Monday Jesus went to the temple.

Matthew 21:12-13  NLT

Jesus entered the Temple and began to drive out all the people buying and selling animals for sacrifice. He knocked over the tables of the money changers and the chairs of those selling doves. 13 He said to them, “The Scriptures declare, ‘My Temple will be called a house of prayer,’ but you have turned it into a den of thieves!”

Make sure the place where we worship is used for what it is made for.  I believe that at this place rich and religious people were taking advantage of those below them.  Jesus said this was wrong, and his life was always turned in a way to give people understanding that everyone has value.

Then it was on Tuesday of Holy week where Jesus when to the Mount of Olives.

Matthew 21:18-22  NLT

In the morning, as Jesus was returning to Jerusalem, he was hungry, 19 and he noticed a fig tree beside the road. He went over to see if there were any figs, but there were only leaves. Then he said to it, “May you never bear fruit again!” And immediately the fig tree withered up. 20 The disciples were amazed when they saw this and asked, “How did the fig tree wither so quickly?” 21 Then Jesus told them, “I tell you the truth, if you have faith and don’t doubt, you can do things like this and much more. You can even say to this mountain, ‘May you be lifted up and thrown into the sea,’ and it will happen. 22 You can pray for anything, and if you have faith, you will receive it.”

What we see on the outside is not always true.  Be careful how you judge.  Be careful what you ask for.  Make sure you bear the right fruit as you seek the Lord and continue to pray.

Holy week reminds us of the importance of Jesus.  This week would change the world for ever.  It has changed and shaped me.  This week changed and shape so many lives and still days.

Take some time this holy week to focus on Jesus.  Easter is before us.  Jesus gave His life for us.  He taught what we needed to hear and still need.  Focus on Jesus as there is more to come!

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
