back2school dates to know

Hello Community Family and Friends

It is that time of the year again as we get ready to bless and serve a bunch of students and their families across our area in Henry County. Please take a look at these dates, put them on your calendar and get ready to serve!

July 9th (Saturday at The Community Fellowship in Collinsville). Registration will take place from 9am until noon. Many volunteers are needed. ALSO, help get the word out for families to register their kids!

July 13th (Wednesday at Hooker Field in Martinsville). It is back2school night at the Mustangs game. Wear your back2school shirt and help is needed to gather school supplies AND register students.

July 15th thru 17 (Friday, Saturday and Sunday at Wal-Mart in Martinsville). Your help is needed to ask shoppers to donate school supplies and to sort the supplies on the bus in the parking lot at Wal-Mart.

July 19th (Tuesday at The Community Fellowship). It is registration at church from 6 to 8pm. Volunteers are needed as well as help get the word out for families to register their kids for this event.

July 23rd (Saturday morning at the new campus). Help sort backpacks and school supplies as we prepare them for students.

August 2nd (Tuesday at the new campus). Beginning at 6pm we will be packing backpacks for each location of the back2school outreach. The more help, the faster these thousands of backpacks are prepared.

August 3rd (Wednesday evening at The Community Fellowship in Collinsville). Volunteers are needed to help set up the church for the events on Friday and Saturday.

August 5th (Friday at The Community Fellowship). This is special needs day for back2school as we serve families who have students that need a little extra time or attention.

August 6th (Saturday at The Community Fellowship). It is the BIG DAY where we will serve hundreds of Students at our church, and other back2school locations will be serving as well. A couple hundred volunteers are needed to make this happen and to bless each student with new shoes and socks, backpacks and school supplies, haircuts, clothing and a meal.

This event takes all of us to get it done. Join in. If you haven't gotten your new back2school t-shirt, get it at church this weekend for $6. Let us know if you have any questions, AND THANK YOU ahead of time for helping make the 2022 back2school outreach event the best ever!!!

Your lead team, Michael Harrison, Adrienne Hubbard and Katie Whitlow

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
