few of my favorite things

The family vacation continues.  In these days I continue to take a look back at e-devotions.  I will turn back in time and pass on to you some that still speak to me.  Read and share as you are touched by these.  Pray God continues to use these e-devotions.

The following devotion was from September in 2016:

Philippians 2:4  NASB

do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others.

Not all days turn out the way you plan them to.  The Bible tells us that we can make our plans, but God will direct our steps.  That means that He might change our thoughts or even what we need to do.  All kinds of things can come at us from the extremely urgent to the ones that seem to be just a small deal.

A few of my favorite things are some of those that change what I need to do.   I am talking about some of the things that touch my heart.

As I sat in a meeting I got a message from a friend.  We met a little bit later, and he shared with me some news about his family.  My heart sank.  I got to pray with my friend and will connect with him again later. While I was with that friend my phone rang.  On the other end of the phone was a truck driver that transports disaster relief supplies around the nation.

Another morning was sure to be a hot and tiring, but we got to be part of loading a trailer with supplies that went to Louisiana where flooding had done a lot of damage.  I have seen pictures of friend’s home that were destroyed and churches greatly damaged by the water.  My heart goes out to them.

When we know people are hurting, it is not time to turn away. It is time to turn up to help.  It is easier to turn and walk the other direction than it is to do something about it and help.

My heart is tied to the things that I love and that mean a lot to me.  Over the years there have been many things that have touched my heart.  I pray we will listen and respond instead of ignore them and turn away.

Proverbs 11:25  NLT

The generous will prosper; those who refresh others will themselves be refreshed.

These really are a few of my favorite things.

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
