Jesus on faithfulness

We continue our series Pre-Decide at The Community Fellowship, and yesterday we talked about being faithful as we pursue our God and choose to be in relationship with the God who loves us so much.  There are so many great outcomes if we simple continue to follow.

Jesus taught his disciples how to understand and live by faith.  It isn’t easy, but it is right.  The outcome is worth the struggle.  In fact, as God says, our responsibility is to be obedient to God.  His responsibility are all the outcomes.  Just do what is right, and leave the results to God.

Listen in to what God says and guides us to understand…

Faithfulness our choice that has excellent outcomes because it is in God’s hands, not ours.  How is is this applied?  What Jesus said & didn’t say?

As the disciples worried, Jesus spoke to them

Like 12:22  NASB

And He said to His disciples, “for this reason I say, Do not worry about your life, as to what you will eat, not for your body, as to what you will put on.

Don’t worry about that.  In fact read on in Luke 12 or in Matthew 5.  God cares for the little things and for us.  We simply seek Him.

There was a woman caught in adultery by some men who wanted to trap Jesus.  Yet as Jesus challenges the men who accused this lady, something awesome happened.

John 8:10-11  NLT

Then Jesus stood up again and said to the women, “Where are your accusers?  Don’t even one of them condemn you?  No Lord, She said.  And Jesus said, “Neither do I.  Go and sin no more.

Our God changes lives.  He calls us to live by faith and to live holy lives.  Our accusers lose their power as we follow Jesus.

Peter denied Jesus three times, but the outcome of his relationship with Jesus left and those around him completely changed.

John 21:17  NLT

A third time he asked him, “Simon son of John, do you love me?”  Peter was hurt that Jesus asked the question a third time.  He said, “Lord, you know everything.  You know that I love you.”  Jesus said, “Feed my sheep.”

Jesus knew that man’s heart.  Though Peter stepped out and denied Jesus, the future isn’t determined by Peter’s failure but by his desire to be faithful to Jesus.  The same is true for you and me.  Be obedient to how God leads you, and leave all the results to God.

Yesterday’s message was formed within the following verse, and I leave this for us all to think through and seek to live out!

Habbakuck 2:4 NLT

“Look at the proud! They trust in themselves, and their lives are  crooked. But the righteous will live by their faithfulness to God.

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
