a fun top 5

It is the end of the week.  Maybe you have had a great week or maybe it has been challenging.  Could be that you, like me, have had a week packed with stuff and you are ready for a break.

Let me take some time to run to something fun called “the top five”.  Maybe it is like the David Letterman show when he did the top ten.  Or maybe it is like some cool article you have read that gives you ideas on a topic or opinion.

This top five is a bit of the overflow of this week where I have been, what I have experienced and more precisely what has encouraged me.  Listen or read on.

Number 5.  Catch that verse that sticks out.

You have heard some share a verse.  Maybe it is one that you have heard many, many times, but this time it has more meaning.  It could come across as literally a word from God meant just for you.

1 Thessalonians 1:8  NLT

And now the word of the Lord is ringing out from you to people everywhere, even beyond Macedonia and Achaia, for wherever we go we find people telling us about your faith in God. We don’t need to tell them about it,

Number 4.  Listen to stories and share your own.

Those stories that catch your attention, or hit your heart, are not just to tickle your ears or make your heart feel good.  Often stories are intended to inspire you to take the next step and not miss what God has in store for you.  Now share your story with others and do it often.

Deuteronomy 2:7  NLT

For the Lord your God has blessed you in everything you have done. He has watched your every step through this great wilderness. During these forty years, the Lord your God has been with you, and you have lacked nothing.

Number 3.  Take notes.

This is pretty simple but so few people do it.  I am a note taker.  Rarely do I go back to the notes.  Sometimes I do.  But what I have learned is that when I write something down I retain it longer and learn it faster.  Write down what is important to you.

Revelation 1:19  NLT

Write down what you have seen—both the things that are now happening and the things that will happen.

Number 2.  Stop and pray.

This is one of those things that I cannot get away from.  I ask people how I can pray for them.  When the feeling hits you or you feel led or hear a voice that encourages you to pray for someone, stop and pray.  Don’t wait.  This might change someone’s life.  It might change yours.  The most powerful thing we can do it pray.  It connects us to God.

Ephesians 1:16  NLT

I have not stopped thanking God for you. I pray for you constantly,

And finally, number 1.  Watch what God does.

This one is simple, but it is also hard to explain.  When you haven’t heard from God or don’t know His voice, you cannot explain what you have seen.  Know that God is working.  Know that God is for you.  Know that God loves you and has an incredible plan for your life.  As Henry Blackaby says, “watch where God is working and join Him.”

Joshua 23:3  NLT

You have seen everything the Lord your God has done for you during my lifetime. The Lord your God has fought for you against your enemies.

What are your top 5?  Have a great weekend, and let me know how I can pray for you.

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
