Thanksgiving!

Tomorrow is Thanksgiving.  May God be so very real to you and your family.

We are blessed.  We have been gifted with so many of the blessings from God.  That makes me even more thankful.

As I said in Monday’s devotion… when we know where our salvation is from, it is so much easier to be thankful.

Share with others that you are thankful.  Share what you are thankful for.  Ask others what they are thankful for.  Let people know that God is an important part of your life.  That sharing may change their lives.

Here are verses we shared at church on Sunday about being thankful!

1 Chronicles 16:8  NLT

Give thanks to the Lord and proclaim his greatness. Let the whole world know what he has done.

Psalm 30:11-12  NLT

You have turned my mourning into joyful dancing. You have taken away my clothes of mourning and clothed me with joy, 12  that I might sing praises to you and not be silent.  O Lord my God, I will give you thanks forever!

Psalm 100:4  NLT

Enter his gates with thanksgiving; go into his courts with praise. Give thanks to him and praise his name.

Psalm 118:1  NLT

Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good! His faithful love endures forever.

Colossians 3:3-5  NLT

We always pray for you, and we give thanks to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. 4 For we have heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and your love for all of God’s people, 5 which come from your confident hope of what God has reserved for you in heaven. You have had this expectation ever since you first heard the truth of the Good News.

Colossians 3:16-17  NLT

Let the message about Christ, in all its richness, fill your lives. Teach and counsel each other with all the wisdom he gives. Sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs to God with thankful hearts. 17 And whatever you do or say, do it as a representative of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through him to God the Father.

2 Corinthians 4:15  NLT

All of this is for your benefit. And as God’s grace reaches more and more people, there will be great thanksgiving, and God will receive more and more glory.

Revelation 11:17  NLT

And they said, “We give thanks to you, Lord God, the Almighty, the one who is and who always was, for now you have assumed your great power and have begun to reign.

My next trip to Cuba is December 7-15, and I will be in Villa Clara, the central region of Cuba, leading a retreat for leaders in the sports ministry.  Will you support this trip with prayer and finances?  If so, please reach out to me at pastormh@gmail.com

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
