who are you praying for?

Who are you praying for?  You may get this e-devotion and see a prayer list at the bottom (if you read this on social media, the prayer list isn’t there).  But I would like to know who is on your mind to pray for.  I have people on my mind and in my prayers each.  Do you?

Of coarse my family.  They are always at the top of my list.  Those closest to me are the ones who I think about and lift to God throughout the day.  We are so blessed, Julie and I are.  Family is important.

Our church and the people around our church are part of my daily prayers too.

Then there are friends and people who we have known through the years that stay on my mind.

So many people are close to my heart, and that is where God often reminds me to pray.  Pray for those to come across your mind and who need a touch from God.  Sometimes it is me that has a need.

I also pray for the situations that present themselves or that are current.  Night before last there was a shooting a the University of Virginia, and I am praying for all impacted there.  Often there are happenings around me that take my attention.  It might be a wreck I pass by when driving or a news story.  Stop and pray for those as well

I want to share with you today in this simple devotion a few of my thoughts about prayer.  Also please share with me who you are praying for and how I can pray for you.

James 5:16  NLT

Therefore, confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another so that you may be healed. A prayer of a righteous person, when it is brought about, can accomplish much.

So here are a couple of the things I take to heart and do in prayer…

Let someone know when you pray for them.  Speak up.  When someone comes across your mind, pray for them.  If you can, tell them that you are praying for them.

Take opportunities to ask people how you can pray for them as it might change their life, or change you.

Put your hand on someone’s shoulder or hold their hand while you pray for them.  That touch may be something that gives them peace or strength at that moment.

We are called by God to pray.  Pray often.  Prayer is a conversation between you and God.  Listen to Him.  Speak to God.  It is simple, that simple, to pray.

Who are you praying for you?

Finally, I ask you to pray for my upcoming trip back to Cuba.  I will be leading a retreat for pastors and coaches in the middle of Cuba.  Would you support this trip financially?  If so, please reach out to me at pastormh@gmail.com

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
