get up and listen

Proverbs 1:33  NLT

But all who listen to me will live in peace, untroubled by fear of harm.

Listening is not only to learn but to gain wisdom from those who really know.  We can also gain so much experience from those who have been there before us.  That would be from Jesus first and in the life of someone sold out to Him.

Over the last several days I have connected with some people I have known for over a decade and have also met a several more that are awesome people.  All of them have something in common.  That is that they want to impact the world by serving.  We are connected through the ministry of washing people’s feet and giving them shoes.

The testimonies, stories and opportunities really are incredible.  I am grateful for Manny and Tracie Ohonme who have continued to pour out their God given vision so others can join them in such a work.

The verse above reminds us to listen to God, to learn and to be impacted by truth.  The outcome will be peace and being able to deal with fear.

Several years ago I met a man who witnessed to others on a street most run to for the sin and fun, not for Christ and His salvation. He was known as the “Chaplain of Bourbon Street” and his name was Bob Harrington.  His story held my attention.  At one point he walked away from God. By the grace of God he came back and began sharing Jesus with others.  We can learn from stories like Bob’s.

You are’t done is you trip and fall.  Get up.  Watch God work.  Learn from mistakes and trials and failures.  God will take each and every piece and use it for His good and for others to learn, like the verse above says.

Proverbs 24:16  NLT

The godly may trip seven times, but they will get up again. But one disaster is enough to overthrow the wicked.

Be the one that gets up and moves forward.  Let God work through your mess to bring miracles.  Let God take your pain and turn it in to gain.  Let God do the ridiculous in good ways after you thought you were wreck in a bad way.  Get up and listen.

Give it a try.  Listen to the people God puts around you.  Their stories will convey life, grant you courage and deliver loads of wisdom.

Proverbs 2:7-8 NLT

He grants a treasure of common sense to the honest.  He is a shield to those who walk with integrity.  He guards the paths of the just and protects those who are faithful to him.

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
