more about pride

Do you have the answers?  I mean like all the answers.  I know some things.  But I definitely do not know all things.  Only God holds that right.

So, in the middle of the story, or in the middle of life, or in the day to day and in and out of things we have to figure out who we trust.  It is easy to go down the path of least resistance and do what feels best or what is easy.  Yet so many times that is not the right or best way.

Let me illustrate through some God thoughts:

Proverbs 3:5-6  NLT

Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. 6  Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.

Proverbs 12:15  NLT

Fools think their own way is right, but the wise listen to others.

Proverbs 16:18  NLT

Pride goes before destruction, and haughtiness before a fall.

That sets the case pretty well.  Pride will help you fail and fall, not succeed or do well.  Fools think their way is the best way often shown in how they do not listen to wise words from other people.  Don’t depend on your way.

It is God’s way that leads to life.  Check it out for yourself.  Mark verses from the Bible that speak directly to what is going on in your life and how it directs you.  How do those things help you?  Do you end up better or worse by following what God says?

And finally, this one comes to mind a lot when I am trying to decide the best coarse to take:

Matthew 7:13-14  NLT

“You can enter God’s Kingdom only through the narrow gate. The highway to hell is broad, and its gate is wide for the many who choose that way. 14 But the gateway to life is very narrow and the road is difficult, and only a few ever find it.

I like those highways with lots of lanes that seem to get you to the destination in record time, but too many times those roads are packed with things that get us mad, wreck us or even stop at a stand still.

Try one of those narrow roads.  Watch the scenery as you head the right direction.  It might make a great difference as you choose the road that less people have decided to take.

Robert Frost said it this way, “Two roads diverged in a wood, and I— I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference.”

Our choice of who to listen to and who to follow makes a difference.  Go the way of pride or the way of humility.  It will make a world a difference for you and those around you.

Pride will wreck your life while God has a much better way in humility.

1 Peter 5:5-6  NLT

…And all of you, dress yourselves in humility as you relate to one another, for “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.” 6 So humble yourselves under the mighty power of God, and at the right time he will lift you up in honor.

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
