START by giving

Today I finish the e-devotion series based on the word START.  The Community Fellowship’s 2023 theme is THERE IS MORE TO COME.  The word START has 5 letters that represent these phrases … SERVE.  TITHE.  ADORE GOD. READ SCRIPTURE. TALK TO GOD.

Today I point you to TITHE.  This is not something that some want to hear about, yet this is a promise from God full of abundance for the one who has chosen to follow Jesus.

Be a giver.  Tithe.  Choose to be generous.

Malachi 3:10  NLT

Bring all the tithes into the storehouse so there will be enough food in my Temple. If you do,” says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, “I will open the windows of heaven for you. I will pour out a blessing so great you won’t have enough room to take it in! Try it! Put me to the test!

Literally this verse has God saying to us to TEST HIM in this.  See if He does what He says He will do.  Begin and watch.  I have found God to be true and so good when we do what He asks of us.

Tithing is an issue of obedience.  We are given a measure of 10 percent.  I believe we can do more with our 90 percent when we give God our 10 percent.  Try it.  The person that chooses this will put God before all else.  That is the mark of the person who will START and keep their 2023 in incredible ways.

Tithe and give to the church or the storehouse as God calls it.  For our church go to the church website www.thecommunityfellowship.org and click give online.  Whether you can attend in person or not, give as you know is right.  The church and the ministries you support need you more now than ever.  Be a generous giver.

2 Corinthians 9:7   NASB

Each one must do just as he has purposed in his heart, not grudgingly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.

We are challenged to be generous and to know the goodness of God.  He is generous.  People who love God and love others will be those who are the most generous, not just with their money.

Proverbs 11:25  NLT

The generous will prosper; those who refresh others will themselves be refreshed.

Do you want to have a great new year?  Choose to experience and help others experience the goodness of God.  Giving is one aspect of life that sets our direction and our success.  Tithing literally allows us to test God in the area of His goodness.

Make 2023 incredible for you.  Here is a great place to START.

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
