START making 2023 great

We started a new theme at our church, There Is More to Come.  I believe we ought to plan to make this a great year.  Make some decisions based on who our God is.

I serve the God of more.  He is able.  Nothing is to hard for Him and no body and no thing is too small for Him.  I serve the God of great expectations and who will take our mustard seed faith and move huge mountains.  I serve a God who sits with sinners, comforts the lonely, heals the sick and wows us with the wonder of each new day.

My prayer for the new year is that God will blow your mind and mine.  My prayers for you in the new year is that you will allow God to show up in your life and show off each and every day.  My prayer for me and my family is that we will first step back and sit with God, step up and walk with God and step out to help others be with God.  My prayer is that we will experience more.  There is more to come.  There really is more to come.

Isaiah 43:19  NLT

For I am about to do something new. See, I have already begun! Do you not see it? I will make a pathway through the wilderness. I will create rivers in the dry wasteland.

Look for it and believe it.  Expect it and get ready for more.  He is doing something new.  That something new begins in you.

Our theme for 2023 is THERE IS MORE TO COME.  I am sharing today a message about preparing for more.  And we need to do just that.  Prepare.

START.  Take time to look at these 5 things.  Make this new year one that will be incredible  Each word begins with a letter of the word START.  That makes these things easy to remember, and I believe these basic actions committed to on your part and mine will assure us that 2023 is a great year.

SERVE.  The first word is vital, and this might very well be what helps you find your purpose.  Choose to serve others and share the love of God.

TITHE.  Giving is a spiritual discipline that removes greed and selfishness from our lives.  It is also a mark of obedience as we follow God.

ADORE GOD.  To adore is to worship, to give value and to focus on who you love.  We worship God because we are committed to following, knowing we are loved and our lives are being changed by God.

READ SCRIPTURE.  Put the best in your life.  Truth is found in the Bible, and truth is a person whose name is Jesus.  By reading Scripture we connect with God.

TALK TO GOD.  This is prayer, is the best way to connect with God.  Speak to Him, and listen to Him.  Prayer is the follower of Jesus’ way to stay as close as possible to the one who is most important.

Do you want to have a great new year?  Do what makes you the best possible.  Here is a great place to START.

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
