Who are the people that inspire you? There are many different people in my book. Some of them are from history. Some of them are from stories I have heard. Some of them are personal and people who have impacted my life. We need to be inspired.
Most of the people that stick out to me are those who loved sacrificially. These are people like Mother Teresa or Billy Graham. Others would be like the sweet little lady at church that serves so faithfully or a friend that has many times gone out of their way to serve you.
Romans 12:9 NLT
Don’t just pretend to love others. Really love them. Hate what is wrong. Hold tightly to what is good.
Loving the way Jesus loves is sacrificial. It is giving of itself not expecting anything in return or totally unconditional.
To love like this will help those loved be more confident and help more people know they are loved.
John 15:13 NIV
Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.
Be careful. When you say that you love someone, follow through. Love acts. Love responds. Love follows through when it costs you something and you might even have to rearrange your schedule.
James 2:14-18 NIV
What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save them? 15 Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food. 16 If one of you says to them, “Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it? 17 In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead. 18 But someone will say, “You have faith; I have deeds.” Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by my deeds.
There ya go. We owe people love because God first loved us. Think about the people who have inspired you in this way. Follow their example.
Romans 13:8 NASB
Owe nothing to anyone except to love one another; for he who loves his neighbor has fulfilled the law.
NOTE: this e-devotion was first shared in early 2019 and remains true and encouraged me today.
