4 ways to praise

I’d like to share a little something different today.  Maybe not real different, but it is something that I got to thinking about over the last month through the news of revivals happening with college age students across the nations.

There are many ways to praise God.  The fact is we just need to praise Him.  Who we praise says a lot about us.  Think a little deeper with me.

Stand Up

Nehemiah 9:5  NLT

…“Stand up and praise the Lord your God, for he lives from everlasting to everlasting!” Then they prayed: “May your glorious name be praised! May it be exalted above all blessing and praise!

Posture speaks volumes.  In conversations we need to not only listen but look like you are listening.

In praise posture speaks volumes.  When someone you want to honor comes in to your presence, you often stand to greet them.

We can do the same for our great and gracious God.  Stand up to show honor.  Stand up to change your mindset or even to change your focus.  You might even stand up and raise your hands.

When you change your posture you might even change your praise!

Speak Up

Psalm 71:23  NLT

I will shout for joy and sing your praises, for you have ransomed me.

Speaking up is one way we get heard.  It is also something that helps us put a point to remember in our minds.  It might even help others think about what they are doing or what they are saying.

Kneel Down

Acts 7:60  NLT

He fell to his knees, shouting, “Lord, don’t charge them with this sin!” And with that, he died.

Changing our posture changes our thinking and may change our heart before God.  I believe that kneeling is often something that gets me ready to hear from God and to adjust my heart before Him.

Kneeling is a great way to pray as so many Christian traditions have shown and used through the years.

Fall down

Genesis 17:3  NLT

At this, Abram fell face down on the ground. Then God said to him,

There were several times in Scripture when people came in to the presence of God, and they fell on their faces, laying face down before God, to worship Him, to hear from Him and more.

Again our posture makes a difference.  It might simply be a change in our posture that shows God we mean business.

I challenge you this weekend to spend time with God, get in to His presence.  Look at your posture.  Look at the ways that you are praising God.  Are we giving God our best or just what is left?  Are we lifting His name in heart driven praise, or are you just doing what is comfortable?

May we find ourselves praising God even more.  God is good!

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
