stay close to God

James 4:8  ESV

Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.

What are the things that keep you going?  There are most likely lots of answers to that question.  Some are real good.  Some if we are honest are not good at all.  Yet we do know that some things in life are vitally important.

It is kind of like a car.  There are many pieces that have to work together for the vehicle to preform as it it supposed to.  You have to have fuel that burns correctly.  There needs to be a battery that is charged enough.  And so much more.

Our bodies are the same.  The heart has to be pumping, but there has to be plenty of blood, good blood, to flow through our veins as the heart pumps.  Our brain has to be sending the right signals for all things to work as they should.  We also have to be at the right body temperature.

I think you get my point.  There are many things that we need.

There are things that we allow to get in the way of what is vital.  This might be the various distractions that come along our journey each day.  Often our enemy is throwing some of those our way.  Another things that gets in the way is hurt feelings.  They are real, but are feelings vital to the body functioning properly?  The answer is no.

So that is the body we live.  That was about a car.  But what about us spiritually?

How do we live and breathe spiritually so that life and our connection to God are clear?  That is a loaded question also packed with many things that can be answers.

Yet today I suggest that our real answer is a clear connection to God.  Hearing from God and receiving from Him are vital to our spiritual lives being healthy and strong.  So many things get in the way.

Feelings and offenses get in the way.  Selfishness and pride get in the way.  People who don’t care and problems that get blown out of proportion get in the way.

My suggestion for today, and every day for that matter, is to maintain a clear and guarded connection to God.  Be sharing.  Be listening.  Be ready for God.

John 15:4-5  NLT

Remain in me, and I will remain in you. For a branch cannot produce fruit if it is severed from the vine, and you cannot be fruitful unless you remain in me. 5 “Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing.

Stay connected to God.  Choose that reality for you today and the days ahead!

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
