Do you know why you were created? Do you know what gifts God has given you and that you are using them?
Those questions can help us or haunt us each, but God’s plan is for our good and to use our lives to help others be better. I talk about this often. The reason why is that I want to fulfill the purpose God has given me.
One of those things that God has called me to and put in my heart is to help others be who God made them to be. Take some time today to ask God, if you don’t know already, what your purpose is. The best ways to do this is in doing three things that bring us insight.
Psalm 119:105 NLT
Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path.
Start in the word of God. Read it. Let it sink in. Do this not just to get a word from God, but to spend time with God. He will share with you. Listen carefully. Write down what He says.
Acts 10:44 NLT
Even as Peter was saying these things, the Holy Spirit fell upon all who were listening to the message.
Be sensitive to what the Spirit of God says to you. Some people call this a gut feeling. It is more like that voice inside you that guides and guards and often speaks truth to you when all else is silent. This also happens in prayer, connecting with God.
Proverbs 20:18 NLT
Plans succeed through good counsel; don’t go to war without wise advice.
Another way to hear from God is by listening to people who love God, know Him well and who love you. Ask them what they see God doing in and around your life. Seek out people who care deeply about the things of God and are proven to be wise.
Those three things are vital to the life of the person who chooses to follow Jesus. Read the Word of God. Be open to and listening to the Spirit of God. And follow the good advise of godly people. I have tried to do this for decades, and it has made a lot of difference.
I began by asking you if you know your purpose. Well, one of the purposes in my life is to help people realize their God given potential and use it. Don’t leave alone or behind what God has placed in your life. You can and will make a difference, a bigger difference than you might realize, if you do what God made you to do!
1 Thessalonians 5:11 NLT
So encourage each other and build each other up, just as you are already doing.
That verse speaks big time in to my calling from God. By encouraging others in their calling I am calling out the God given potential in their life, and in your life. By putting our hands on the backs of the people around us, we bless them and push them to do what is right and what is good. I pray that I do that every day and for many people.
One more reason why I serve God is this. My trip coming soon to Cuba will be doing just that as I get to host a leadership retreat for the staff of sports ministry there. Please pray for that time and support it if you feel led. It costs about $300 to help one of the couples go on a three day retreat. Let me know if you would like to be a part.
Use your God given gifts to help others use their gifts today!
