day of prayer, Thursday


 

A day to pray that is set aside by our government.  That doesn’t seem normal, but it is.  It was President Truman in 1952 that started the first Thursday of each May being set as the “National Day of Prayer”.


Let’s take this opportunity to pray, to seek God, to intercede for others and our nation.  Prayer is our most powerful connection to the one who loves us most.  Jesus taught His disciples to pray and modeled what prayer was as well as it’s importance.


James 5:16  NLT  

Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results.


That is from God.  He says pray.  Pray for one another.  The prayer of righteous people will get results, and just a reminder, that righteousness comes from God and not us.


2 Chronicles 7:14  NLT  

Then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land. 


If my people… that is how that verse begins.  When all the things around you are a struggle, when every thing is falling a part, when you don’t have answers, turn to God.  And if God’s people turn to their God, He will hear.  Turn is an important part.  Listen and turn.


Thank you to all who are praying for the mission trip I am on the next week in Cuba and for the sports ministry leader retreat I will be helping to host.  These men and their families has stolen my heart and are committed to demonstrating the love of God to athletes, coaches and their families.  I am excited.  Please pray…


I take just a little time today to give you some direction in prayer.  


Pray for your family.  Marriages.  Children.  Healing over sickness and help with struggles.


Pray for our churches.  Pastors and ministries.  Leaders and attenders.  For those who do not know God to come to know Him through salvation.


Pray for our nation.  National leaders such as the president, congress, senators and courts.  Pray for our military serving around the world.  Pray for the world, needs, moves of God in many, many places.


Pray for our local communities, neighborhoods, and states.  Local and state officials.  Pray for first responders such as police, EMS, fire and others.  Pray for servants in all the areas that come to your mind.


Finally, pray for yourself.  Seek the presence of God.  Spend time using the ACTS of prayer (adoration, confession, thanksgiving and supplication).


It is an honor to pray as well as a responsibility of those who choose to follow Jesus.  We should not see it as a chore or even just a routine.  Prayer ought to be a way of life and part of the loves of our life.  Prayer and time in His presence will change out lives.


Thursday is the National Day of Prayer.  Spend some time praying…

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. wash feet, sharing hope

  John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
