prayer... God is able

There is power in connecting to God.  The more we connect, the more power we experience.  The ultimate person is the creator of all and the one who sustains it all is God.

Think about it.  What is too big and too much for our God? The answer is nothing and no one.  When we believe this about God, we will want to connect with Him even more.  Connecting to God is often through prayer, and you can connect in other ways, whatever you call them.

I leave us with one simple prayer from a letter that the Apostle Paul shared in Ephesians 3.  The things that are in this prayer remind us of Godā€™s character as well as His abilities.

Spend some time reading this prayer.  If you feel led, use it as a prayer today.

Ephesians 3:14-21  NLT

When I think of all this, I fall to my knees and pray to the Father, 15 the Creator of everything in heaven and on earth. 16 I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit. 17 Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into Godā€™s love and keep you strong. 18 And may you have the power to understand, as all Godā€™s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. 19 May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God. 20 Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think. 21 Glory to him in the church and in Christ Jesus through all generations forever and ever! Amen.

In these verses and prayer we are points to the things Paul shares before.  In fact the first two chapters leading up to this form the reason for the prayer.

What leads you to pray?

What makes you desire more time with God?

What about God draws you closer to Him?

Paul closes this with a statement about God that I cannot get out of my mind.  In fact I have thought this for decades.  He is able to do more.  More than I can think.  More than I can dream.  More than I can handle.  And so much more.

Spend some time today with this prayer.  Make it your own.  God is able!

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciplesā€™ feet, drying them with the towel he had around himā€¦ 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each otherā€™s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
