We continue our series at church called DRIFT. One of the most powerful things that happens in our lives is confidence, and that will keep us from drifting further from God. Confidence is clearly built by knowing who you are and being good with that fact. God made you. God loves you. He has a plan for your life.
Stay tied to what you have have learned and the examples of those who love and know God. Why? Because drift happens. It can happen radically and quick. Yet far more over DRIFT is subtle and happens over time.
Hebrews 2:1 NLT
So we must listen very carefully to the truth we have heard, or we may drift away from it.
How do we battle drift in our own lives? Jesus told us in this passage some of the greatest things. I shared three simple facts from the Sermon on the Mount in Matthew 5. We need God … we must choose humility … and we should want more!
Matthew 5:3 NLT
God blesses those who are poor and realize their need for him, for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs.
What comes up in life, often questions and desperation, points us to our need for God which never ends. Jesus is teaching but are we listening?
John 13:17 NLT
Now that you know these things, God will bless you for doing them.
It is that simple. Blessings will come. Direction will be given. Protection is tied to doing what God says. There is no substitute for doing what is right all the time. Do we all mess up? We do, but praise God for the opportunities of His grace. Get back on the journey. Keep going and don’t give up.
I have shared the following verse many times, but this is a great way to battle drift, and my point in the sermon yesterday is this … go back to the basics. Don’t make things complicated. It is basic truth of needing God and following Him that will keep us from slowly drifting away from Him.
Joshua 24:15 NLT
But if you refuse to serve the Lord, then choose today whom you will serve. Would you prefer the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates? Or will it be the gods of the Amorites in whose land you now live? But as for me and my family, we will serve the Lord.”
This week choose Jesus. Help others do the same!
