experience God's peace


This week we continue looking at Philippians 4:6-7.  So many things stick out to me in these verses.  We have talked about being thankful, praying about everything and not worrying.  Today we will talk about being peace.  Early next week we will talk about how God’s peace guards us.


These verses God gave me as a Bible promise three decades ago.  I have quoted these more than many other verses. 


And here we go…


Philippians 4:6-7 NLT  

Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. 7 Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.



Today we rock on a little further to part of faith that we cannot or should not miss.  Peace is a big deal


Then you will experience God’s peace.


Peace is not the absence of war, the removal of conflict, the healing from disease.  Peace is the inner cool in the midst of those things, and during more.  


Peace is more about who we are than what we are going through.  Peace is dependent upon who we depend on.  Did you get that?


This is my peace that comes from hard work or having some or many resources.  This is peace that God alone gives.  Let’s ask God for some insight on this topic.  I think God may clear up any misconception we might have about it.


John 16:33  NLT  

I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.”


His word, the truth we have from God, is what brings to us real and lasting peace.


Psalm 29:11  NLT  

The Lord gives his people strength. The Lord blesses them with peace.


Peace is God’s to give and for us to know.  It is based on us being connected to God.


Psalm 85:8  NLT  

I listen carefully to what God the Lord is saying, for he speaks peace to his faithful people. But let them not return to their foolish ways.


Don’t stop listening to God.  Not listening will remove His peace from your life.


Isaiah 26:3,12  NLT  

You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you! …  Lord, you will grant us peace; all we have accomplished is really from you.


Peace can be and should be a constant in the life of the person who follows God.


2 Peter 1:2  NLT  

May God give you more and more grace and peace as you grow in your knowledge of God and Jesus our Lord.


There are many more verses about peace.  But peace grows as we grow in God.  There is more we can say, but next time we see or talk about the results of peace and not just what it is.


May we literally and daily experience the peace of God!

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. wash feet, sharing hope

  John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
