some of my favorite things

Some of my favorite things … this week I have been able to enjoy some of my favorite things in all the world.  You know, I believe that God intends for us to enjoy life.  That is part of the abundance part we heard about in John 10:10.

Remember that our enemy is ready to steal from us all that joy God has given, but God intends for us to know His abundance and His blessings.  That does not say God gives us happiness or gives us all we want.  He gives joy and abundance.

James 4:6  NASB

But He gives a greater grace. Therefore it says, “God is opposed to the proud, but gives grace to the humble.”

Last weekend I was part of the Raceway Ministries team serving at the Martinsville Speedway.  I enjoy interacting with race fans, but some of the greatest conversations aren’t about racing or the weather.  Those conversations are about Jesus.

The outcome of some those conversations have been huge.  I talked with a pastor in Indiana who serves Jewish people around the world.  I prayed with and talked with a couple from North Carolina going through a very difficult time.  I had a long conversation with a man from Canada who travels the world, and this was his first NASCAR race.  He is not a Christian but was interested to hear what God is doing here and in Cuba.

There were more.  And wow, God is good.

Proverbs 17:6 NLT

Grandchildren are the crowning glory of the aged; parents are the pride of their children.

What are my wife and I doing today and this weekend?  We are spending time with our grand children.  This.  Is.  Awesome.  Love these littles so, so much!  Excited to hear their laughs, watch them smile and even to spoil them a bit.

Psalm 105:1  NLT

Give thanks to the Lord and proclaim his greatness. Let the whole world know what he has done.

Last Sunday’s message was one for the books.  I mean God showed up in me first and foremost.  I get to preach and share His word.  That continues to amaze me.

And this next Sunday I get to do that again.  It is amazing the doors God opens, the conversations God brings and the people I get to be around.

Literally, these are some of my favorite things… and yes, God is good!

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
