We have been blessed with some of the best of the best, but we have also been challenged with some of the most difficult things and high hurdles that anyone has dealt with. That is why we need wisdom, the wisdom only God can offer
The key to living a life of significance and honor and even success is to lean on a foundation that is stronger than you. Take that even deeper or further to find truth that transcends yourself and your own thinking in God’s wisdom.
James 3:17-18 NLT
But the wisdom from above is first of all pure. It is also peace loving, gentle at all times, and willing to yield to others. It is full of mercy and the fruit of good deeds. It shows no favoritism and is always sincere. 18 And those who are peacemakers will plant seeds of peace and reap a harvest of righteousness.
What is real wisdom? What changes us and the people around us? I need wisdom. How about you?
That is wisdom that takes us to understanding and strength that we can not get on our own. Yesterday we began a series at The Community Fellowship titled “begin with Wisdom” helping us understand that this new year of 2024 has opportunities for each of us that wisdom can unlock.
Read Proverbs every day. You have heard me say this before. There are 31 chapters and 31 days in most months. Read one chapter per day. Proverbs 1 is an incredible place to begin.
“God calls us to receive His wisdom and be skillful, so that we can make a life that will glorify Him. The important thing isn’t how long we live but how we live, not the length but the depth of life. Fools wade in the shallows, but wise people launch out into the deep and let God give them His very best.” - Warren Wiersbe, in his Proverbs Commentary
This book is most likely the one that has transformed my life more than any other. Maybe not, as well. But is does hold wisdom that goes beyond what I can get on my own. In fact my life verses screams this truth:
James 1:5 NLT
If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking.
Proverbs is a compilations of truths and sayings that lead us to know God, His truth and to be able to have a stronger, better life. Be careful how you hold on to things because life is hard. The key to this life is God. The key to proverbs is this:
Proverbs 1:7 NLT
Fear of the Lord is the foundation of true knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline.
Fear God. Not a fear that makes you afraid of Him. But fear God knowing who He is and the He loves you dearly. We need Him and His wisdom. If we would just listen, life would go so much better. Listen to your parents, Proverbs says a lot.
In this first chapter we might hear, as Wiersbe states, listen for the voice of instruction, the voice of temptation, and the voice of salvation. God is speaking. May we be listening and learning as we read.
