thrive or just survive

There is more to life than just getting by, just surviving, yet it is difficult to live in a different way.  The status quo or the normal every day life is to take care of yourself, provide for your family and if you can help others a little, that is all good.

I challenge that thinking.  God says life is more than the getting by.  Life is really lived when we accept His offers and see what He sees.

Let’s take another dive as the new year is only a few weeks old.  I love these verses and ask that we spend some time seeking God for the application as well as the challenge of helping those around us live with meaning.

John 10:10  NASB

The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came so that they would have life, and have it abundantly.

Abundance is God’s promise, but we have an enemy doing everything in his power to kill that thought for us.  Choose God’s promise of abundance.

Ephesians 1:18  NLT

I pray that your hearts will be flooded with light so that you can understand the confident hope he has given to those he called—his holy people who are his rich and glorious inheritance.

May we see what God wants us to see, but we need to know that enemy is trying to blind us to this hope and sight.

Psalm 139:23-24  NLT

Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. 24  Point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me along the path of everlasting life.

Here is where we learn.  Ask God to teach, lead, change and care for our path.  His guiding makes all the difference to our getting by and thriving!

Joshua 1:8-9  NLT

Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do. 9 This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.

His book and is for us.  Literally, the Scriptures is His love letter and guide book.  Listen in.  Think about it.  Be strong because of it and remember He is with us!

Joshua 24:15  NLT

But if you refuse to serve the Lord, then choose today whom you will serve. Would you prefer the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates? Or will it be the gods of the Amorites in whose land you now live? But as for me and my family, we will serve the Lord.”

That is it.  We are blessed.  Abundance is ours for the taking.  May we see what God wants us to see and enjoy the thriving and be a difference maker.

The choice is yours and mine.  But as for me …

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
