how we build others up

We started a new series at The Community Fellowship yesterday.  “Love and Life” will take us on a journey through First Corinthians 13, hat is well known as the love chapter.

Next week we will talk about how godly love should characterize our relationships, our marriages and our homes.  But in this fist message we talked about the fact of how God’s loves helps us see others and find ways to care for others.

Literally caring for others is a mark of a person who knows God and has found confidence in God’s love for them.  Think about how God’s love has touched your life.

Jude 1:20-21  NLT

But you, dear friends, must build each other up in your most holy faith, pray in the power of the Holy Spirit, 21 and await the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ, who will bring you eternal life. In this way, you will keep yourselves safe in God’s love.

Love builds people up, yet many people are constantly beaten people up.  Are we beating on people or building people?  Are we pointing people to what makes us and them better, or are we pushing people lower and further away from God?  Touch questions.

We are changed by God so that we can show others the goodness and the plan of God.  He will keep us.  He promises us mercy and stronger faith as we build other people up.

John 15:13  NLT

There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.

Love gives, sacrifices, serves, shares, and lays down its way so that others, often called friends, can find life and His love.  May we know that great love and share it.

John 15:24-26  NLT

Then Jesus said to his disciples, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross, and follow me. 25 If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake, you will save it. 26 And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul? Is anything worth more than your soul?

There is the foundation.  Love comes from God.  It is from Him, about it and for His glory that we love others.  That is how we gain our lives, by giving them away.

May His love flow through our lives.  May His love give us confidence.  May His love change the world around us!

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you

why is it Good Friday?

Holy Week is the time we focus on God and His gift of salvation.  We come to Friday.  The day we remember the cross, Jesus’ death and all God has done for you and me   Why do they call this day “Good Friday” because it doesn’t seems good?   Jesus was treated as a criminal.  He was beaten so much that He could not recognize Him.  His pain would have been too much for you or me to endure.  That is especially from Scripture I’ve read or as in the movie the  Passion of the Christ .   Yet it is a good day.  It is Good Friday because God had our good in His heart.  What Jesus did that day changed our forever direction. Here are some thoughts that come to me:   He is Redemption and Redeemer   He too our Pain and Punishment   He is our Righteousness and Reality   He is the Savior and Life   All of those happened from the cross.  It was meant for the worst lawbreakers.  It was not meant for a Savior who never broke a law.  It was lifted high so that onlookers could see the price Jesus.   Look
