is it love week?

 


It is Valentine’s week.  That might be a reminder for all you folks in relationships.  Wednesday is the day.  More flowers, candy and love filled greetings cards will be bought at the last minute by men who love their ladies.


But what is more than this holiday in showing love is the place where we learn about and see lived out the greatest love of all.  That would be God.


He is love.  He has shown love.  And He loves you and me more than anyone else.


Psalm 103:8  NLT  

The LORD is compassionate and merciful, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love.


Fact.  Right there.  God is filled with the greatest love, unconditional love, powerful and compassion filled love.  That is a different kind of love than the world shows us and talks about in so many ways.


Why is God’s love so different?  It is because God’s way is opposed to the way of the flesh, what feels normal and even the reasons why we love.  Listen close…


1 John 4:7-10  NLT  

Dear friends, let us continue to love one another, for love comes from God. Anyone who loves is a child of God and knows God. 8 But anyone who does not love does not know God, for God is love. 9 God showed how much he loved us by sending his one and only Son into the world so that we might have eternal life through him. 10 This is real love—not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins.


That is God and His way.  Take note once again that we love because His example is for us, His way is shown to us, and His best gift was the love filled son who paves our path for eternal life.


Love literally means sacrifice.  Learn that.  Live that.  It will make a difference.

1 Peter 4:8  NLT  

Most important of all, continue to show deep love for each other, for love covers a multitude of sins.


Love goes beyond all other characteristics that come out our lives as well as the gifts or talents God has placed in us.  As 1 Corinthians 13 says anything without love is just making noise.  1 John 4 says that we are void of love that we do not know God.


Those are hard truths, but they are truth.


May we be consumed by two things … God loves us AND we get to love others!

inspiration from C.S. Lewis

There are many people, past and present, who get our attention by what they write or say or share.  For me C.S. Lewis is one of those.  He was a prolific writer who continues to grab the attention of thinkers from many different points of view. Lewis first grabbed my attention when I was in 5 th grader, and our teacher, Mrs. Foy, shared The Chronicles of Narnia with our class.  It was a powerful time that this dreamer opened doors to thinking like I had never lived before.  He wrote of faith, of far off places and of strong figures who found their character rooted deep in God. C.S.
