pray for Alex

Isaiah 21:6  NLT

Meanwhile, the Lord said to me, “Put a watchman on the city wall. Let him shout out what he sees.

It is an honor to share with you some of the last trip to Cuba.  This actually is my 13th trip to serve with the sports ministry in Cuba.  There will be stories of challenges and hang ups that really through us in some strange directions as well as how God showed up after those challenges.

My plan is to go from most recent to the oldest memories of what God did on this trip.  Enjoy.  Ask questions.  Please pray for future trips and the continued ministry in Cuba and all over the world of FCA sports ministry.

This past weekend I was joined her in the United States and Virginia by Alexander Roque Martinez who is the director of sports ministry in Cuba.  He recently received his visa to be able to visit the USA, and this was his first visit.  He will be here until the 21st of May.

My favorite parts of Alex with us the last four days really is watching him experience things for the first time.  It was his first time at a church and of coarse at The Community Fellowship.  He shared from his heart words of thanks and testimony of what God is doing all over Cuba using this ministry.  We love this man, and we as a church, and me personally, are grateful for the partnership God has given us.

He enjoyed some incredible meals.  He had lots and lots of conversations.  He shared stories.  So much has been packed in to these days before he heads off to Missouri and then on to Texas for the remainder of his time in the USA.

The conversations have been great.  This morning he is sharing with the executive committee of the SBC of Virginia.  Yesterday we had the honor to being with the team of DRP in their Monday morning meeting.  It was awesome talking about the Gospel going out.  We met with my doctor who does ministry in Cuba.  Friday we met with many of the FCA leaders and other church leaders from our area.  We met with friends who have helped with ministry in Cuba.  I love hearing Alex share God’s call on His life and the sports ministry impact on so many lives.

My prayer is that God will raise up more people to share the work, more people who will be committed to praying for this ministry and several people who will financially support on an ongoing basis the work in Cuba.

If you are interested in praying and helping, please let me know.  Stop right now and pray for Alex as he shares and travels here in the USA.  Pray for his family back in Cuba and pray for the sports ministry in Cuba.

Ephesians 6:19 NLT

And pray for me, too. Ask God to give me the right words so I can boldly explain God’s mysterious plan that the Good News is for Jews and Gentiles alike.

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
