choose the truth

Just a little time today to soak up what God says in the Bible.  I am not trying to make your faith simple, to accuse anyone of making it complicated or even to take attention off of someone or something to get it somewhere else.

What I am doing is just asking you to spend time hearing God and letting you heart hold on to what He says.  God has a plan for you and for me.  Check out this passage…

Colossians 1:3-8  NLT

We give thanks to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, praying always for you, 4 since we heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and the love which you have for all the saints; 5 because of the hope reserved for you in heaven, of which you previously heard in the word of truth, the gospel 6 which has come to you, just as in all the world also it is bearing fruit and increasing, even as it has been doing in you also since the day you heard it and understood the grace of God in truth; 7 just as you learned it from Epaphras, our beloved fellow bond-servant, who is a faithful servant of Christ on our behalf, 8 and he also informed us of your love in the Spirit.

In light of what God has called our church to do and just completing the back2school outreach, here are some things that stand out about us, or things we should be about…

First, be thankful.  Don’t miss what this does to our days and our hearts.

Second, make it all about the Gospel.  It is the story of Jesus and changing lives.

Third, watch the fruit that is growing.  Our lives will bear fruit.  Is ours good or bad?

Fourth, think about the truth.  Think about it a lot.  By God’s grace we know and hold truth.

Fifth and final in these verses, don’t forget to serve.  It is all out of love, led by the spirit and serving others.

Does that, all 5 of those things characterize our lives?  If not we have a problem.  If yes, then we are in the middle of the place God has called us.  Go back over the list, and ask God to speak to you even more.

Be thankful.  Share the Gospel.  Grow in Christ.  Think about His truth.  Choose to serve!

Colossians 1:28  NASB

We proclaim Him, admonishing every person and teaching every person with all wisdom, so that we may present every person complete in Christ.

Pray for students and families that were part of back2school.  Choose to be thankful and spend time think about the things that are important in your life.

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
