just a little overflow

Matthew 28:18-20  NLT

Jesus came and told his disciples, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. 19 Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. 20 Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

As the new week begins I want to share a little overflow with you from the weekend.  It was a blessing, and there is so much more to come.

We were honored by some guests to joined us as they passed through town.  Morgan and Lynn Clough has been ministry partners for almost of 20 years as we first met in the world of Raceway Ministries.  Since that time our churches have almost been mirror images seeing those who are in need in our communities.  Morgan in rural eastern Tennessee and us in southwest Virginia.  Yesterday he shared a testimony at church, and it was awesome.

A the end of our service we were blessed by a visit from Pastor Michael Palmer.  I have known Mike for more than 25 years, and his surprise visit made the day even better.  He is impacting the world through helping churches regain their strength as well as serving ministries in Romania.

But now to the big part of Sunday’s service, baptism.  It was a great day as 12 people were baptized at The Community Fellowship.  They ranged in age from 6 years old to over 50 and every where in between.  It was awesome hearing the testimonies that each person shared.  It was special to have a dad baptize his daughter, a husband and sons baptize his wide and their mom, to see one young man who invited his friend and girlfriend to church who all were baptized…

I am just now working through the overflow, and it really was awesome.  As Pastor Michael Palmer reminded us… this day and these baptisms are the results of many years of ministry to these special people and others.  And there is more to come.

God really is good, and He is working in the lives of people all around The Community Fellowship, in Cuba, through our homes and way beyond.  Who will we share our testimony with next?  There is no telling who is next, who needs to hear and who will respond to Jesus.

John 3:16-17  NLT

For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. 17 God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him.

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
