oh, the places you'll go

“Oh, the Places You’ll Go” is not only a book by Dr. Suess but a reality about life.  What I experienced on the mission trip to Cuba was really found in that title.  I didn’t expect some of those places and things.

Way up in the mountains where vehicles can’t go and they haul water in jugs… On a 14 hour bus ride that makes 6 or 8 stops along the way… More than an hour sitting in the office of an immigration official who speaks no English… Attending a church’s 25th anniversary and learning from some amazing leaders who love the Lord and have experienced so many things… Visiting a friend late at night at a funeral home as the prepare to bury his mother… Playing pickle ball with 10 other leaders who use sports to share the Gospel with people…

Those things and so many more describe “oh, the places you’ll go” in living detail.

Psalm 23:3  NLT

He renews my strength. He guides me along right paths, bringing honor to his name.

It is along those places and so many other where conversations about Jesus get real.  I am grateful for all God has done in my life, but I am also grateful for the conversations that God opened up for me and others.

Yesterday I had lunch and a powerful conversation with a man I met in Terminal D of the Miami International Airport.  He lives near our community and is a great ministry.  We shared missions, passion for ministry, stories about our family and much more.  It was great.

Last night I got a text for a man in Los Angeles.  There is a story in that one.  While I was on that 14 hour bus trip we stopped for breakfast at an open-air, roadside restaurant.  I struck up a conversation with a fellow from California that was in Cuba to help people.  He is not a Christian, but the conversation has begun and will continue.  Pray for him.

While sitting with some great people in Cuba I shared some of the challenges we had some through, and the pastor sitting across from me, a man I have known and shared with for more than a year, said he was willing to help get me through one of the biggest challenges.  That is an answer to prayer, and God is working.

Psalm 46:8  NLT

Come, see the glorious works of the Lord: See how he brings destruction upon the world.

Trust God and share what He is doing around you.  By trusting God and following His lead you will find yourself going to some incredible places, getting in some great conversations and see God do amazing things.  And there is still more to come!

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
