Christmas truth... God with us

Let me begin today’s e-devotion by simply saying THANK YOU to all who helped make last week’s Cuba sports ministry mission trip a success.  Your prayers and support were a vital part of this great efforts, and the impact is still going forward.

Our team served in five different Cuba cities with 15-20 church and sports ministry leaders attending each training season.  Each leader represented athletes and coaches that are part this important ministry and many churches that they are part of.

My prayer for these leaders is not only are they stronger and better leaders, but I pray that hundreds of lives will be changed this coming year because of the commitment of these men and women to share the Gospel and let others know of hope in Jesus.  Keep praying.  More trips are being planned for 2025

John 1:14  NLT

So the Word became human and made his home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness.

The word came to us and was sent from God. The word became part of us and with us. Together. Isn’t that a great word?

The power of together might just beg the greatest discovery of all time. I mean we’ve seen that come alive to all of us. At one time or another you’ve experienced with us.

Isaiah 7:14  NLT

All right then, the Lord himself will give you the sign. Look! The virgin will conceive a child! She will give birth to a son and will call him Immanuel (which means ‘God is with us’).

How do we apply this truth outside of Christmas?  Here it comes alive in the story of a baby come to earth and the promises of God fulfilled with brilliant light and love. For God loved us so He gave. To be with people.

It began in the garden when God wanted to be with Adam and Eve. It moved on with his people even guiding them for 40 years in the wilderness. Moving forward to the promised Messiah and the birth of Christ.  On to the apostles who shared about Jesus day in and day out. Through the book of Acts Jesus appeared time after time to prove that He is life and is with us. Even as far as the book of Revelation God appears to John in the reminder that we are not alone.

God is with us.  The hope of the world.  The story of Christmas.  The light we need every day of our lights.  Apply it.  Oh my.  Seek him.

Isaiah 55:6-7  NLT

Seek the Lord while you can find him. Call on him now while he is near. 7  Let the wicked change their ways and banish the very thought of doing wrong. Let them turn to the Lord that he may have mercy on them. Yes, turn to our God, for he will forgive generously.

Our Christmas series at The Community Fellowship is “Everyday Gospel”, and this week we discussed the greatly important truth that God is “with us” all the time!

Let’s celebrate Christmas and Jesus!

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
