this Sunday is 3:16

This Sunday is one of those dates that stands our.  It is 3:16.  That is March 16th.  It reminds us of that verse guys at the ballgame that paint it on their chest.  This verse is on bulletin boards and other places.  The verse is John 3:16.

I will be preaching this Sunday from Romans 6 based on the truth that God gave us in John 3:16.  His love is amazing.  His promise is for all who come to know Him.

Let’s take a small trip through the Bible.  Call it a 3:16 journey.

Proverbs 3:16  NLT

She offers you long life in her right hand, and riches and honor in her left.

She is not a person.  Maybe this is the fountain from which wisdom comes from or the place where God gives us His gifts.

Daniel 3:16  NLT

Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego replied, “O Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to defend ourselves before you.

Those men where challenged and expected to bow down to the king, yet they would not turn from God.  The king was Nebuchadnezzar.

Malachi 3:16  NLT

Then those who feared the Lord spoke with each other, and the Lord listened to what they said. In his presence, a scroll of remembrance was written to record the names of those who feared him and always thought about the honor of his name.

And another powerful truth for all who fear God.  We need God every day and forever.  Fear is not an emotion but a way to honor God.

Mark 3:16  NLT

These are the twelve he chose: Simon (whom he named Peter),

I love that verse.  Right after is a list of the men who walked closest to Jesus.  These men turned the world upside down.

Acts 3:16  NLT

Through faith in the name of Jesus, this man was healed—and you know how crippled he was before. Faith in Jesus’ name has healed him before your very eyes.

Another great verse.  Jesus is healer of those who turn to Him.

2 Corinthians 3:16  NLT

But whenever someone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away.

1 John 3:16  NLT

We know what real love is because Jesus gave up his life for us. So we also ought to give up our lives for our brothers and sisters.

That one and the next one are my favorites.  What I know and love and am grateful for is that God loves us without an end.

John 3:16  NLT

For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
