share Jesus and grill walk

Last weekend a team from our church was able to be part of something that makes a difference for an eternity.  It is called the Serve Tour and is led by one of our partners, Send Relief.

15 people from The Community Fellowship went to Columbia, South Carolina to join with more than 800 volunteers to be part of a mission trip, projects of service that saw more than 80 people accept Jesus as their Savior.  It was a simple 2 day trip.  We helped rehab a church building, but there were so many different projects going on.

Take a look at this video and even to learn more

1 Peter 3:15  NIV

But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect,

What an honor to share the hope that God has given us.  He is our Savior, friend, guide and reason for being part of church and sharing with others.

Our church for over 19 years has served those who are hungry, hurting or homeless all so we can share Jesus with each person.  These Serve Tours have opened some new things for us.  And I want to introduce you to just one of those.  It is called the Grill Walk.

A grill walk is simply a grill on the back of a truck with a group of people offering free hamburgers and asking to pray with the people in the neighborhoods where they serve.  We first encountered this in West Virginia and then in Virginia Beach and then right in our town of Collinsville.

It really is simple.  It is really is all about the Gospel and sharing Jesus.  And this Saturday meet us at 3pm at our church in Collinsville to go out on another Grill Walk.

I want to give a shout out to Forgotten Ministries in Enid, Oklahoma from making this thing come alive.  And another shout out to Floyd and Angie Jones who are delivering our grill to us this weekend.

Let me remind you of a verse that means a lot to me and out church…

1 Corinthians 9:22  NIV

To the weak I became weak, to win the weak. I have become all things to all people so that by all possible means I might save some.

So, this is your invitation to join us and to do even more.  Choose to do things that help you share the hope that you have in Jesus!

Catalyst ticket arrived

My ticket to the Catalyst Conference, in Atlanta Oct 8-10, just arrived. I'm excited!

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
