bring it home

At the end of my sermons for as long as I can remember I have put this phrase “bring it home”.  It means finish it up, lead to an invitation and make sure this applies.

That phrase “bring it home” was the title of the sermon I shared with our church Sunday.  Seems to fit well what Paul was sharing with the church in Rome at the end of the book of Romans.  It comes from the middle section of chapter 15 of Romans where Paul reminds his readers of what they have learned, about his calling from God and how we are to give God glory in everything.

Don’t let the struggles around you keep you from remembering what God has given you and what we have learned.

Isaiah 9:1  NLT

Nevertheless, that time of darkness and despair will not go on forever. The land of Zebulun and Naphtali will be humbled, but there will be a time in the future when Galilee of the Gentiles, which lies along the road that runs between the Jordan and the sea, will be filled with glory.

Just like that promise from God, our lives and truth are not based on the bad things happening in the world or even how we feel.  Trust God in the middle of the struggles of every day life, and know that all life belongs to God.

2 Thessalonians 1:11  NLT

So we keep on praying for you, asking our God to enable you to live a life worthy of his call. May he give you the power to accomplish all the good things your faith prompts you to do.

Let’s live a life worthy of what God has done for us.  He loves you.  He has a plan for your life.  Dig in to the Bible, and watch it come alive in your life.

I am excited that at the end of this week I am returning to Cuba to be part of the ministry there.  Pray for this trip.  My wife will be going with me for a few days, and this is her first trip since 2019.  Pray for the details to come together, for protection and wisdom.  Pray for the team who will be traveling with me.

Cuba continues to be a place of great struggle.  The lack of electricity, difficult to get food and so much more, yet these awesome people continue to trust God and be part of ministry opportunities.  Thank you for your help.

Let’s apply Scripture to our lives and to the people around us.  Bring it home so that it makes sense and comes alive.  Choose to be part of what Jesus is doing.

Philippians 3:10  NLT

I want to know Christ and experience the mighty power that raised him from the dead. I want to suffer with him, sharing in his death,

Paul said he wanted to experience Jesus.  I choose the same.  Not the struggles but just to be with Jesus and doing what He calls us to do.

If you would like to help with and pray for this Cuba trip, please reach out early this week.

Catalyst ticket arrived

My ticket to the Catalyst Conference, in Atlanta Oct 8-10, just arrived. I'm excited!

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
