consider this truth

Let’s consider truth.  I am not talking about what the law books or the science books might suggest.  What I am talking about what God, our guide, friend and Savior puts forth about us.

Through seeking the truth in His word, there are so many places we can go and things we can name.  For this time of considering I point us only to one chapter, Colossians 1, and what God says about His kids.

Colossians 1:4-5  NLT

For we have heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and your love for all of God’s people, 5 which come from your confident hope of what God has reserved for you in heaven. You have had this expectation ever since you first heard the truth of the Good News.

Love the way Paul reminds us that others are watching and need to see an example of faith and hope.  Fact is we can be confident with our hope because of who God is and what He has done.

On to more of that truth from Colossians 1…

Colossians 1:15-20  NLT

Christ is the visible image of the invisible God.  He existed before anything was created and is supreme over all creation, 16 for through him God created everything in the heavenly realms and on earth.  He made the things we can see and the things we can’t see— such as thrones, kingdoms, rulers, and authorities in the unseen world. Everything was created through him and for him. 17 He existed before anything else, and he holds all creation together. 18 Christ is also the head of the church, which is his body. He is the beginning, supreme over all who rise from the dead.  So he is first in everything. 19 For God in all his fullness was pleased to live in Christ, 20 and through him God reconciled everything to himself. He made peace with everything in heaven and on earth by means of Christ’s blood on the cross.

This is the truth that we learn about Christ, the son of God, send by God, to accomplish the purpose God sent Him for.  What do we learn about Christ and His truth?

He is image of God.  He existed before creation.  Christ was part of creation.  Everything exists because of and through Christ.  He holds all things together.  Christ is the reason for and the authority of the church.  He rose from the dead which is the proof of who He is.  God is in Christ, and they are one.  It is Christ that made us right with God, reconciled us, which gives us peace with God and peace while we live.  Finally, it is Christ’s shed blood on the cross that makes all this and more possible.

Consider those truths and more that God gives us here and all through His word.  Why?  Because the truth we hold on to will hold on to us.  God is our truth!

Catalyst ticket arrived

My ticket to the Catalyst Conference, in Atlanta Oct 8-10, just arrived. I'm excited!

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
