some random thoughts

As I look through some old e-devotions I found some thoughts that are powerful.  These are random quotes from e-devotions over the last 7 years.  Read on, and may we be inspired to walk even closer to Jesus.

— It really is a sure thing.  God’s promises are sure, fool proof, strong and so much more.

— Think about weakness.  Does some weakness have no answer?  I subscribe to a theory that there is weakness that we cannot overcome, but we know someone who can and will overcome our weakness.  That would be God. In our relationship with Christ we find strength.

— David Platt said this: in the church we spend lots of hours working and only minutes praying.  That fact pierced my heart.  I ask you to think through it.

— Jesus said that people were on His heart because they needed a shepherd to guide and love them.  That is what God wants to do for each and every one of us.  He is guide and life.  He is strength and confidence.  He is peace and giver of truth.

— It is the grace of God that lifts us.  His grace provides our forgiveness of sin.  It is the grace of God that gives us wisdom and direction.  His grace opens our eyes to see and our hearts to understand.

— I see loyalty in the partners that we serve with.  When we have shared mission and passion, we will make a stronger difference in the lives of the people we serve.  I value relationship and friendship, and the trait of loyalty builds great relationships.

— The narrow way might be difficult to find, but it is always right and blessed.  Don’t discount what is more difficult.

— Some things take longer than others, and you may very well be like me and have very little patience.  Waiting is often hard.  But our God is always working even when the process is taking some time to be completed.

— Continuing to live in thanks is something that you do even when you don’t feel like it.  It is a natural outcome of the choices you made yesterday or last week and way easier than today.  In fact that gratefulness becomes a reminder each day.

— A friend shares there is a need, a struggle or heart ache, I can pray.  It is an honor to be the intercessor that lifts them to God.  I will pray.

2 Corinthians 5:14  NLT

Either way, Christ’s love controls us. Since we believe that Christ died for all, we also believe that we have all died to our old life.

It is the love of Christ that changes every thing.  It is the love that brings us to God and was that love that made the cross possible.  What He did was for us and made our new life reality.

Thank you for letting me share.  All of these came from different e-devotions over a 7 year period.  Each stands out and is powerful.  Yet God is powerful and is love!

My ticket to the Catalyst Conference, in Atlanta Oct 8-10, just arrived. I'm excited!

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
