personal notes

I am going to take today to share some personal things on my mind.  Maybe this is a download or just rambling.  But it is the beginning of the week and the first e-devotion of a busy week.

First, today is my wife’s birthday.  Julie is a very special lady.  School teacher.  Wife.  Mother.  Grandmother.  She is so much more, but most of all she is my best friend and partner in life.  That makes her a gift from God.  I am grateful for her.

Proverbs 18:22  NLT

The man who finds a wife finds a treasure, and he receives favor from the Lord.

As you know I returned from Cuba about a week ago, and I have had some time to reflect on what God did in their past trip and how He is working in this country and ministry that I love.  Obviously I will return, and my heart is heavy for our friends and partners, my Cuba family, that deal with so many concerns and struggles each and every day.  I am grateful for the work they do to share the Gospel and to love people in their communities.  It is real and really good!

Mark 16:15  NLT

And then he told them, “Go into all the world and preach the Good News to everyone.

I miss our church when I am away, and yesterday’s worship service was one more example of why I love The Community Fellowship so much.  Great people who encourage me.  They hear and love the Word of God.  Ministries that are making a difference in so many ways.  It is an honor to be their pastor.

Ephesians 4:15

Instead, we will speak the truth in love, growing in every way more and more like Christ, who is the head of his body, the church.

This weekend was full.  We spent all day Saturday with our daughter Ruth and our grandchildren Harper and Dawson.  Sunday we celebrated Kai’s birthday and were blessed to attend the wedding of our friends Meagan and Rodney.

This week will be awesome.  Raceway ministries work at our local speedway as thousands of fans come to town, and we get to serve them and share Christ with each person.  What an honor it is.  Please pray for this ministry.

2 Thessalonians 3:1  NLT

Finally, dear brothers and sisters, we ask you to pray for us. Pray that the Lord’s message will spread rapidly and be honored wherever it goes, just as when it came to you.

Catalyst ticket arrived

My ticket to the Catalyst Conference, in Atlanta Oct 8-10, just arrived. I'm excited!

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
