a report from Cuba

Matthew 5:3  NLT

God blesses those who are poor and realize their need for him, for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs.

Welcome home!  Yes.  I returned home from the latest Cuba mission trip late Monday, and I am excited to share with you just a little form the trip.  This might seem like a little bit of overflow, and it is.  I might forget some things.  BUT…

God showed up.  That is so, so good.  The people of Cuba are open to hearing and following Jesus.  That is evident not just because of the great needs they have, but it is evident because they have hope in days of crisis.  I am grateful for the churches, ministries and more that are making a difference for Jesus!

The crisis continues.  The lack of gasoline is the biggest thing you see.  There are less vehicles on the road and less movement over all.  Lots of the other things … electric vehicles, bicycles, horses and more.  Electricity is sporadic as best.  In the city you might only have a few hours of electricity each day.  Out in the country you may go days without electricity.  Further, the cost of everything has risen significantly.

Prayer is happening.  Not only have you been praying, the people in the churches of Cuban have not stopped praying because they depend on God for what is next.

Times are uncertain.  That might be the biggest understatement.  You don’t know what the next day might bring.  It could be more economic collapse or even more physical need such as sickness or buildings crumbling.  Will the USA do something or the government of Cuba make changes?

Pray for the change needed in Cuba and for these awesome people.  Pray for ministry to continue in sharing the Gospel and meeting needs.  Pray for freedom and hope throughout Cuba and the world.

I am grateful for the moments where God showed up in the last week… sharing the Gospel with an elderly friend who seems open to Christ (pray for her)… shared a devotion with a group of baseball players that asked lots of questions… churches that continue to sing and worship God with great passion… ministry leaders who shared incredible stories.  And so much more I will share later.

Thank you to each of you who prayed, who gave, who encouraged and who helped make this trip and ministry in Cuba possible.  There is more to come!

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
