continue to pray for Cuba

Today I return to an old theme.  Pray for Cuba.  I have shared it before and will many more times, and with the current situation in that country, prayers and support are needed in greater ways.

Today I get to share why Cuba once again with some great people in our community.  Another of our team is sharing in Branson, Missouri with another group of leaders.  Please pray for these presentations around noon, but even more pray for the ministry, our friends and for what is needed for survival both here and in eternity.  It really is for the gospel and His call on my life and on others.

Cuba is on my mind.  That is not a new thing.  It is an every day thing.  I get to return there in the fall.  Another friend arrives today in Cuba.  We choose to support the work with sports ministry and various churches all for the sake of the gospel.

Psalm 2:8  NLT

Only ask, and I will give you the nations as your inheritance, the whole earth as your possession.

1 Corinthians 9:22-23  NLT

… Yes, I try to find common ground with everyone, doing everything I can to save some. 23 I do everything to spread the Good News and share in its blessings.

Two powerful verses that share my heart about the work I get to do in Virginia, in Cuba and many other places.  People need to hear about Jesus and have an opportunity for hope.  Hope comes in one person, and those person is Jesus.

In February of 2019 I sat across the table at a Havana restaurant, and I heard what God was doing across the country of Cuba.  God had been working there for a long time using some incredible people.  But there was and is a need for more.  More resources.  More workers.  More support.

That is where I come in and have found my heart in fresh and exciting ways.  I love what we are doing at The Community Fellowship and beyond.  I also see what we are doing at church as an extension of the work in Cuba.

Would you pray?  Pray for more workers.  Pray for critical resources like fuel, electricity and food.  Pray for needed sports equipment, sports fields, coaches and athletes.  Pray for encouragement, strength and passion for the work.  Pray for those who are called to support those who are doing the work.

Would you consider going on a trip or giving resources?  You can give through our church.  You can give through the FCA website and look for sports ministry in Cuba known as MADEM.

Thank you for praying.  I will not be sharing e-devotions every day over the next 9 days.  There will be some e-devotion minute videos on facebook.  There might be a few e-devotion emails or blog posts.

Matthew 8:36-38  CSB

When he saw the crowds, he felt compassion for them, because they were distressed and dejected, like sheep without a shepherd. 37 Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is abundant, but the workers are few. 38 Therefore, pray to the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into his harvest.”

Catalyst ticket arrived

My ticket to the Catalyst Conference, in Atlanta Oct 8-10, just arrived. I'm excited!

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
