faith and voting

Tomorrow is election day in the United States, and I encourage you to vote.   Make sure that your faith impacts how you vote because God’s standard for us is important.

I read the following in a weekly newsletter I received from the ministry Strategic Renewal:

Christians need to do more than listen to the word preached once a week—they need to go hard after God daily and seek His strength to be godly witnesses for Christ in their circles of influence.

The word of God urges us to pray for our government leaders, and we can correctly apply that to praying for the upcoming elections…

May we literally live out what we believe.  May our lives, our words, our actions and even our voting portray the reality of our faith and our God.

Romans 13:1  NLT

Everyone must submit to governing authorities. For all authority comes from God, and those in positions of authority have been placed there by God.

Spend some time today praying for our nation.  Ask God to bring the right people in to office, people who will honor God.  We can make a difference by truly living out our faith.

1 Timothy 2:1-2  NLT

I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people. Ask God to help them; intercede on their behalf, and give thanks for them. 2 Pray this way for kings and all who are in authority so that we can live peaceful and quiet lives marked by godliness and dignity.

A recent Christian song has caught my attention.  It is by Josh Baldwin and his song “Made for More”.  Here is the chorus…

I wasn't made to be tending a grave

I was called by name

Born and raised back to life again

I was made for more

So why would I make a bed in my shame

When a fountain of grace is running my way

I know I am Yours

And I was made for more

God told you and I that we literally were made for more.  Let’s not settle for less than what God planned for us!

Ephesians 1:3  NLT

All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ.

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you

why is it Good Friday?

Holy Week is the time we focus on God and His gift of salvation.  We come to Friday.  The day we remember the cross, Jesus’ death and all God has done for you and me   Why do they call this day “Good Friday” because it doesn’t seems good?   Jesus was treated as a criminal.  He was beaten so much that He could not recognize Him.  His pain would have been too much for you or me to endure.  That is especially from Scripture I’ve read or as in the movie the  Passion of the Christ .   Yet it is a good day.  It is Good Friday because God had our good in His heart.  What Jesus did that day changed our forever direction. Here are some thoughts that come to me:   He is Redemption and Redeemer   He too our Pain and Punishment   He is our Righteousness and Reality   He is the Savior and Life   All of those happened from the cross.  It was meant for the worst lawbreakers.  It was not meant for a Savior who never broke a law.  It was lifted high so that onlookers could see the price Jesus.   Look

how we build others up

We started a new series at The Community Fellowship yesterday.  “Love and Life” will take us on a journey through First Corinthians 13, hat is well known as the love chapter. Next week we will talk about how godly love should characterize our relationships, our marriages and our homes.  But in this fist message we talked about the fact of how God’s loves helps us see others and find ways to care for others. Literally caring for others is a mark of a person who knows God and has found confidence in God’s love for them.  Think about how God’s love has touched your life. Jude 1:20-21  NLT   But you, dear friends, must build each other up in your most holy faith, pray in the power of the Holy Spirit, 21 and await the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ, who will bring you eternal life. In this way, you will keep yourselves safe in God’s love. Love builds people up, yet many people are constantly beaten people up.  Are we beating on people or building people?  Are we pointing people to what ma
