can you see?

Proverbs 29:18  (NLT) ---  When people do not accept divine guidance, they run wild.  But whoever obeys the law is joyful. Why is it that people can't see?  Much of the time there is a physical problem that can be corrected with eye glasses or maybe even surgery.  There are other times when we, as humans, chose not to see.  We look past things or overlook things  Some people have closed their eyes to some things that they really can not see things or notice things. When you talk in Spiritual terms, it is easy to understand that when we stop listening to God that we stop seeing what God wants us to see.  Is that sin?  Answer that one (if you answer no, you might want to rethink your answer).  No accepting what God says leaves us in trouble. The verse I began with says it pretty plain.  When people don't listen to God, or divine guidance, they or we do our own think.  Often our own thing ends up with us running in circles or running wild. Proverbs 14:12  (...

does fear keep you awake at night?

What keeps you from stepping out to help others?  Often what keeps people from helping and serving is fear of what will happen or fear that they don't have enough.  In the past few months, I have been in many conversations that have led me to this conclusion: most people live in constant fear.  Folks, that fear doesn't come from God.  It comes from Satan. Be honest.  Do you live in constant fear?  Do you live with a little or a lot of fear.  Be honest.  Listen to what God says: Proverbs 3:24-26 (NLT) ---  You can go to bed without fear; you will lie down and sleep soundly.  You need not be afraid of sudden disaster or the destruction that comes upon the wicked, for the L ord  is your security.  He will keep your foot from being caught in a trap. Sleep is something I like.  I'm not like some people who need 8 or 10 hours a night (6 or 7 seems to just enough), but there are some nights that my mind won't shut down.  Kind of like the hamster running in h...

God speaks into our lives

The end of the rope, the bottom of the barrel, in the gutter, worthless, meaningless, empty ... many people who those phrases and terms to talk about their lives.  Or maybe you hear others use those every day.  The fact is, God wants to speak into our lives. One of the things that pushes me to help others, those that are hurting, is when I see people who live as though they have no hope at all.  Life is full of junk.  Maybe they have experienced horrific struggles or conflict, and there is nothing left to live for.  God has something to say.  He wants to speak into our lives. The wisest man to ever live was Solomon and here is what he said: Ecclesiastes 1:2  (NLT) ---  "Everything is meaningless," says the Teacher, "completely meaningless!" When we come to that end, it is time to look to and listen to someone greater than us.  He is always up to something.  He is always working in our best interest.  Believe that.  Isaiah 43:19  (NLT) ---  F...

When Little Things Add Up (guest post)

Post from Dan Cathy, president of Chick-fil-A , and posting this on his blog here .  Read on: When Little Things Add Up. Although I'm not sure anyone can really "own" a bee, I do keep them in my yard. For years, thousands of these natural wonders have made their home in hives on my property. Like a living garden, they grow and change and to me, reveal God's handiwork. And sometimes, they even teach me a little about teamwork. Lots of people love honey. Housed in little squeezable bears or golden-colored jars that seem to capture everything that's bright and perfect about the summer, honey is a wonderful treat. But, have you ever thought about what it takes to make honey? Have you ever heard the bee math behind a single pound of it? I assure you, it's astonishing. To make a single pound of honey, it takes two million flowers. To make a single pound of honey, the bees in my hives will touch and tap two million different flowers. I haven't done an offici...

getting through the pain

Life has it's pain.  We have all been through times.  This past Sunday I shared a message with our church family about how we look at the trouble that comes our way.  How we deal with these struggles speaks directly to our faith or our lack of faith. James 1:2-4 (NLT) ---  Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy.   For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow.   So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing. All of us deal with trouble in our lives, and one of the things that we just don't get, don't understand is the issue of SUFFERING.  When suffering comes, there are many things we can do, ways we can turn and even life we can gain or lose. What do you do with suffering?  Does suffering stop you in your tracks or in your faith?  Or, does suffering strengthen you and give you perspective and drive you ...
